Lucille
1978
“Lucille” was my second print in the Boulevard Farm series. I had 14 wild ponies living on the pastures of the farm. There was plenty of grass for them to eat, but I did give them extra treats of hay, grain, and even kudzu. They loved kudzu. I wonder why no one has come up with a way to harvest this invasive vine for animal food. One of the ponies was particularly friendly to me. I named her Lucille because her mouth reminded me of the shape of the actress Lucille Ball’s lips. The night sky on the farm was routinely full of many stars. To show the magical life I felt my wild pony herd possessed, I put Lucille in front of a starry sky with a shooting star coming down into the cup of the Big Dipper constellation.
