Beech on the New Hope
1997
This nine-color print was done featuring a Beech tree near a sandy beach on New Hope Creek. I was attracted to this spot because of the labyrinth of tree roots spread across the ground that were washed clean by occasional flood waters. To start this print, I took my sketchpad, camera, and peanut butter and jelly sandwich and plopped down underneath the Beech tree. I must have sat in one spot for 1 ½ hours, sketching, eating lunch, and just plain being inspired. When I got up to leave, I put my hand down on the ground to give myself a needed push. Much to my surprise, beside my hand, sat a fairly large leopard frog. This frog was likely with me the entire time I sat there. I decided to incorporate him in the print. See if you can find him!
