City Circuits
1989
I first got interested in tall buildings in Durham when, in the early 80s, I began taking pictures from the tops of all the tall buildings in downtown. That’s how I became acquainted with and interested in the skyline of Durham. I found a spot near the Durham Freeway that I could see all the buildings, took a series of photographs, and then worked from the photos to produce a silhouette in black ink of the skyline. With my ink pen, I drew circuits to connect the city with a giant underground battery, or at least a physics symbol of one. Downtown Durham has since been built up with apartments and real skyscrapers. These days, it’s a different skyline altogether.
